@brooklynlaw Professor Jayne Ressler weighs in on a Connecticut judge's unusual opinion rejecting the use of pseudonyms in a civil court case over an alleged rape, saying there is a divide among judges around the country about whether to grant anonymity and there is no uniform understanding of privacy rights in such cases. Ressler believes pseudonyms should be allowed: “There is so much risk and so much humiliation and potential embarrassment and shaming that comes along with being a plaintiff in a lawsuit. We desperately need anonymity in these cases to allow plaintiffs to feel free to bring their claims, not feel threatened, not feel stigmatized,” Ressler said.
