The SUNY – Educational Opportunity Centers (EOCs) serve eligible adult and young adult learners throughout the State of New York.


The State University of New York Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center (SUNY-BEOC) is a higher education institution that has provided academic and career training programs to eligible New Yorker’s since 1966. Supported by both, the University Center for Academic and Workforce Development (SUNY-UCAWD) and New York City College of Technology (CUNY-NYCCT), BEOC offers tuition free training to adult and young adult learners of New York to enhance their marketable skills and, thus, increase their chances for employability.

General Info

Our Academic programs include English as a Second Language (ESOL)-with Computer Literacy, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and College Preparation. The BEOC is also an Official GED Test site at which students and general public can take the GED exam on-site. College Prep have the opportunity to take remedial classes in preparation for the CUNY Assessment Test (CAT). In addition, we offer career programs in the fields of Hospitality Management, Medical Assisting and Medical Electronic Records & Office Administration. All the career programs are aligned with corresponding National Certification that students can receive upon successfully completion of their program and passing the certification exam. While enrolled, our students can receive personalized academic and career advisement from our Student Services department as well as tutoring through our Library. Internship and career development opportunities are available for individuals and job placement services is offered for Employers. . Minimum qualifications for elegibility (varies by program): Must be 18 years of age or older (17 years old with High School Diploma or GED) Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or refugee Must be a resident of New York State for one (1) year prior to enrolling Must have a low to moderate income below $30,000 Prospective applicants should attend a 5-hr One Stop Enrollment session where they will complete the admissions’ application and take the TABE Assessment Test. Free Education: GED, English as a Second Language (Intermediate and Advanced level. Career Programs*: Medical Billing & Coding, Medical Assisting, Medical E-Record & Office Administration (NEW), and Hospitality Management Operations. * Applicants must have HS Diploma. College Graduates or College Students in good standing are not elegible to enroll in these Programs.
