Holiday Programs are over and it was off to school at our new Raeburn Park campus for the teachers.... Learning in the same manner as our Arts Kidz approach, our teachers spent the wedsing Bee Bot robots and discovering new ways to use them to engage children in their learning. Meanwhile, creativity and imagination were amped up in the new dark room space. Teachers played with virtual reality backgrounds, light boxes and shadow play, merging multi media with learning objectives. Discovery learning was also high on the agenda as our teachers searched outside and within for interesting items to study with our Zoomy microscopes. Excited about adding this new tool to our Science learning space they developed lesson ideas and topic vocabulary around microscopes and scientific discoveries. Arts Kidz Teachers will complete approx. 54 hours of Professional Development each year. Our next Teacher Training takes place in March.

Arts Kidz International Education Group wishes all its American students and friends a Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy this special day with your loves ones. The celebration of Thanksgiving is modeled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people. The traditional fare of the Thanksgiving meal typically includes turkey, bread stuffing, potatoes, cranberries, and pumpkin pie.

Students and staff at Arts Kidz International at Tiong Bahru were happy and excited after Britain’s Royal Highness, Camilla, visited TBCC (the first community centre established in Singapore) yesterday, 1 November 2017. The British royal was greeted with cheers as she waved at the Arts Kidz children and staff who had gathered along the upper corridor of TBCC. During her visit, the Duchess of Cornwall was handed a painting from Arts Kidz’ Managing Director & Founder, Ms Christina Koh, as a sign of appreciation. Depicting the multi-cultural identity of Singapore, this collaborative art piece brings together the unique art forms of the Malay, Chinese, Indian and Peranakan cultures by combining floral motifs embodying the essence of the respective cultural identity. The Royal Duchess, Camilla, visited Tiong Bahru Community Centre as a part of her and husband Prince Charles’ four-day tour of Singapore also including visits to the National Gallery and the National Orchid Garden. The royal visit marks the perfect end to Arts Kidz International Pre-School’s time at Tiong Bahru Community Centre ending on 19 November 2017. Arts Kidz Pre-School is very proud to have been chosen by the Singapore Art Museum to showcase our children’s work at their booth at this year’s Early Childhood Development Agency 2017 Conference. During the event which took place 6 October 2017, our young artists did an excellent job answering questions from the public regarding their art pieces with assistance from their class teachers and our specialist art teacher. Inspired by the artwork “Floating Mountain” by Unachalee Anantawat, our K1 students developed their display artwork “Underwater Terrain” during their Term 3 Project “Swimming Through”. Our K2 students, on the other hand, were inspired by the artwork “Lizard Tail” by artist Hiromi Tango and developed individual display pieces made of clay. Thanks to all our wonderful parents for attending the event and Singapore Art Museum for selecting us as their partner. We are also pleased to announce that Arts Kidz Pre-School has been invited to send a representative to join the panel overseeing next year’s “Imaginarium” exhibition at the Singapore Art Museum.

Earlier this week, our two campuses celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival (Chuseok in Korean) with an array of songs, dances, games and of course mooncakes! A big thank you to all parents who contributed to the celebrations by sending lanterns and pastries. The tradition of family gathering and moon gazing in the evening of Mid-Autumn Festival is associated with the folklore tale of the Chinese moon goddess, Chang e. Legend has it that Chang e levitated all the way to the moon when she overdosed on an elixir of life, intended originally for her husband who shot nine extra suns out of the sky with arrows. Her only companions on the lunar surface include a rabbit and a man condemned to Sisyphean tree-cutting.

This month the children at Arts Kidz Tiong Bahru and Arts Kidz Bukit Timah celebrated Tsukimi - the Japanese festival of moon viewing. Tsukimi is celebrated every year in mid-autumn. It is also referred to as the Harvest Moon Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival. It is widely celebrated all across Japan. During our Tsukimi celebrations, the Arts Kidz children wore traditional Japanese costumes, made rice cakes and engaged in games and activities planned by our Japanese teachers. Another upcoming celebratory highlight is our Mid-Autumn Festival and Chu Seok Celebrations (the Chinese and Korean version of Tsukimi), which will take place on 4 October 2017.

A very warm thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual Family Day on 30 Aug 2017. Surprises await our families when they arrive on 7 August for the start of our Academic Year at Arts Kidz International, Bukit Timah. While our children were happily engaged in Archaeology, Clay Sculpture, Golf and other fun-filled activities during the Holiday Programme, we have been busily renovating the floor in the PN and N1 rooms and upgrading our sand play area. Teachers have also redecorated class spaces and we are excited to soon show it off to you. We are going to open the school to visitors all week from Monday to Friday (14-18 August), so please help spread the news and invite your friends along. The first day of school after a holiday can be exciting, unknown and even a little scary. As the day approaches, talking to your child about school may help to prepare them for the big day. Showing your excitement about meeting friends, teachers and lots of fun things to do will help to give your child a positive start. Encourage them to be involved in the day by helping to pack their school bag the night before or trying on their school uniform to show other family members or friends. If your child seems nervous or worried, try packing something special for them to hold or look at if they are feeling unsure or sad – a favourite soft toy, a photo of mum and dad, a blanket or other item they may be attached to (please do not send food of any sort).
