Can you guess what animal is famous for its bright pink feathers, stilt-like legs, and S-shaped neck? Is it a giraffe? Or is it an ostrich? Did I hear you say Flamingos? BINGO! You are right! Our little artists took some time to identify the amazing features of the flamingo bird and brought their learning to another level by painting them! Using brown papers almost as tall as them, our little artists used their brushes and tiny hands to paint an amazing masterpiece of the flamingo bird! Isnt it adorable? Like and share to support them!

May the 5th is Japan s Children s Day and in Japan, it s Tango No Sekku where families raise their Koinobori Carp Streamers out in parks, gardens and houses. On this very day, Japan is magically turned into a world of flying Koi Carps displaying beautiful colours, reflecting gold and silver flakes from the sun rays. With the help of the wind, these Koinobori Carp Streamers flap their fins and tail as though they are swimming happily, freely and are very much alive! Tango No Sekku used to be a festival for boys only. It tells a tale from China, about the Koi Carps travelling adventurously through the dangerous Huang River in China, facing many obstacles till they reach the Golden Dragon s Gate. The journey is tough and if they leap over the gate, they will magically turn into a dragon. This tale is told by Samurais to their sons, teaching them about the Koi Carps determination, strength, about not giving up. Such a feat of the Koi Carps is celebrated with the making of the Koinobori. As generations passed, the Japanese began to celebrate this day as Children s day, not just for boys but also together with girls. We told our little artists this story, relating themselves to the Koi Carps. We asked them if there were times when they faced difficulties, such as learning to ride the bicycle, roller blading, taking tests and exams, and if they will ever give up easily or are they inspired about the Koi Carp, staying determined, strong and not giving up. All of them are inspired by the Koinobori and they started to bring their inspiration out through art and stories! Are you inspired by our little artists Koinobori Carp Streamers too? Please show your support by liking and sharing their works online! Your Story, Your Art

Who will be the first Singaporean to go to space? We asked our little artists. What will you do in space? Which planet do you want to explore? What will you find in space and planets? What do you want to bring along or bring back? Our little artists had amazing ideas! One of them wanted to bring seeds along so that she can plant trees and flowers and there will be oxygen to breathe. One of them wanted to build a house to invite his family along to the Moon. Some of them wanted to bring their countries flag while others wanted to bring back Moon rocks or space rocks. The idea of being an Astronaut inspired our little artists. What will their astronaut uniform be like when they grow up? What will their space ships or space rockets be like? Will there be other forms of living things out there? Enter their world of being that ambitious astronaut, browse through and show your support by liking and sharing! Thank you! Batik is an ancient wax-resist dyeing technique, where the melted wax are applied to the fabric using a spouted tool called ’canting’. Waxed area will block the design from the dye, thus allowing the artisan to colour selectively by soaking the fabric in a colour dye, and thereafter removing the wax with boiling water. Multiple colours batik fabric can be created with the repeating of these steps. Wax-resist dye technique can be found in various countries such as China, Malaysia, India, Africa and Indonesia. Each of these countries have their own motif, patterns and colours as developed from their own cultural beliefs. However in Indonesian, batik is an important tradition and identity to the country’s heritage. This can be seen from their traditional costumes, batik is being used by the locals to create designs with symbolic meaning, on the fabrics. Artistori leads our junior artists to understand more about this ancient technique from Indonesia, as well as China. We also discovered that each country has their own motifs and meaning, derived from their own culture roots and identity. Our students then move on to plan on their own motifs and patterns, that best represent their individual identity, before doing the batik on their fabric. The batik process challenges the students’ patience and accuracy on applying the wax, which they slowly get the pace once they are familiarised with controlling of the tools and flow of wax. Not forgetting the dye, we learnt the traditional way to create our indigo dye vat, which derived from China, and observe the reaction between the interaction of the dye and fabric; changing from green to blue due to oxidation. It is exciting to see the batik outcomes of our junior artists as each design comprises different motifs based on their personalities and individual likings, thus very meaningful to them. Artistori treasures such traditional art techniques and will love to share it with our junior artists. If you like them, please share and support their works! Your Story, Your Art

Description

Artistori uses story-telling and inquiry-based teaching approach to connect with children, encouraging them to express and think creatively. We then get them to apply their imagination and creativity onto art, making their art piece unique and original. To build their confidence, we encourage children to draw boldly without hesitation and without the fear of making mistakes. Our creation of art is continuous and usually, a single art piece will take 2 lessons to complete. Occasionally, we will engage children in group work too. Artistori wants to be friends with children, bringing out their imagination and expressing through art and craft...
